This seems to be the question year in and year out. What are you supposed to wear for New Years Eve? Well the answer to this question completely depends on what you are planning on doing for the night. There are three different categories you could pick from including family/close friend parties, club or big singles party, or a formal party.
If you are going to a family party where there will only be a few close friends then the dress code is much more relaxed than you would find at other parties. These are all people that already know and love you and probably won’t like you any less even if you wear that old Coors Light shirt with holes in it. Despite that, you should still wear something decent like a polo shirt or a sweater at least.
If you are going to a big singles party then this is really your time to shine. You should get a nice button down shirt (something a little nicer than a colored work shirt) and maybe some of your nicer jeans. Pair that with some nice dress shoes and you have the perfect mix of dressy and casual. You’ll look sharp without looking like you tried too hard. This is a sure fire way to meet some ladies when you go out for the night.
Last of all is a more formal party. Chances are you are only going to this party because you are loaded or you’re an older single who hangs with a more mature crowd. If this is the case then wear something sexy, sleek, but simple. If you try to wear something that is too flashy or attracts too much attention you will be more of an eyesore and have a hard time being charming with anyone that you might meet.
